Music Room

The Music Room with pyramid piano
The ceiling design of musical instruments reveals that this was once the music room. The Goethe family was very musical: the father played the lute, the others the piano, and mother and daughter sang. The room is dominated by a rarity: a vertically-set pianoforte, known as a pyramid piano, by Christian Ernst Friderici. Above the red clavichord is a painting after Johann Conrad Seekatz showing the Goethe family – Johann Caspar, Catharina Elisabeth, Johann Wolfgang and Cornelia – in pastoral dress before an idyllic landscape.
