The Fireplace Room
View into the fireplace room
Between the two Frankfurt-style cupboards you enter the so-called fireplace room (the chimney of the kitchen’s fireplace for example passed through this room). Presumably young Goethe used the small room as lawyer’s office after he got his lawyer’s licence from the Frankfurt municipality and the magistrates court in 1771. In the totally 28 court cases he was charged of he could count on the backing of his father and the help of a scribe. Today the fireplace room is used for smaller events to be held – previous advance reservation - in the context of walkabouts in the Goethe House in order to deepen different themes. At specific dates there are open offerings for all interested visitors.
